Rishi is an experienced government and industry relations professional based in Washington, DC. He currently serves as the head of the SmartLabel program at the Consumer Brands Association (CBA). CBA is the national trade association representing the Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry, which supports over 20 million jobs and adds $2 trillion to the U.S. economy. SmartLabel is the leading digital disclosure platform which connects consumers to product data that goes beyond the on pack label.
Prior to CBA, Rishi led food safety regulatory and industry affairs at Amazon where he represented Amazon's interests for human food, pet food, baby food and dietary supplements. Before Amazon, Rishi led communications and knowledge mobilization for EatSafe at GAIN. Prior to joining GAIN, Rishi served as Senior Manager at the Global Food Safety Initiative where he served as the primary point of contact for industry, government, media, and public affairs for US and Canada. Prior to GFSI, Rishi worked as a Consulting Manager at Savan Group, a premier management consulting firm, where he worked with numerous federal agencies to advise their rulemaking activities. Before Savan Group, Rishi was the Policy Manager for FiscalNote where his institutional knowledge of regulatory advocacy and the rulemaking process allowed him to serve as a subject matter expert. As Policy Manager, Rishi worked cross-functionally and was integrally involved in product development, business development and client success.
Previously, Rishi excelled as the Director of Regulatory and Technical Affairs at the American Frozen Food Institute. His food microbiology research experience and understanding of environmental microbiology, food industry and regulatory agencies allowed him to support advocacy initiatives relating to food safety, nutrition and environmental regulations.
Rishi began his career as a Biological Science Technician in the Environmental Microbial and Food Safety Laboratory at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. While at USDA, in support of federal food safety regulations, he successfully designed and conducted various food safety related scientific studies to determine food borne human pathogen transmission rates from contaminated soil, water and pests.
