Speaker Biography
Maggie Lyons joined GS1 US as Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs in April 2024. In her role, she is responsible for executing GS1 US’s current government initiatives and exploring new opportunities where GS1 Standards align with the priorities of federal policymakers and regulators.

Before joining GS1 US, Maggie led the U.S. commercial business focusing on agriculture, retail, and consumer packaged goods at SAS, a data analytics company. At SAS, she guided a team of sales and domain experts to address complex data challenges in these sectors.

Prior to SAS, she served as Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary of Food, Nutrition, and Consumer Services at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and as a Senior Advisor to the then Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue. At USDA, she helped oversee an agency with a budget of over $100 billion in federal funds and supported the administration of 15 domestic feeding programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formally known as food stamps), the National School Lunch Program, and Women, Infants and Children (WIC). She also played a significant leadership role in developing the 2020-2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

Maggie brings to GS1 US over 15 years of experience working in food and agriculture policy, including significant work on both the 2014 and 2018 Farm Bill legislation packages. Prior to her work at USDA, Maggie was the Senior Director of Government Relations at the National Grocers Association, leading advocacy work on behalf of the independent supermarket industry. She has also worked for a think tank, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, and a member of the U.S. Senate. She lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband, daughter, son, and rescue mutt named Blossom.
